Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo is faced with a challenging start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, leaving him 14 points behind his teammate Yuki Tsunoda in the Formula 1 standings. Ricciardo’s only points came through a fourth-place finish in the Miami Grand Prix sprint, sparking concerns about his spot on the Red Bull AlphaTauri team.

Ricciardo’s struggles have ignited speculation that he might be replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson, who had an impressive stint as Ricciardo’s cover during his recovery from a hand injury sustained at the Dutch Grand Prix. However, Red Bull CEO Peter Bayer has stated his satisfaction with the current lineup prior to the Monaco Grand Prix.

“I’ll be honest, I haven’t really given contract talks too much. That would be awesome, but I want to be doing better consistently.”

Ricciardo finished 12th at the Monaco Grand Prix, converting his qualifying result despite losing places to both Aston Martins across the two standing starts. He acknowledged that his struggles to regularly join Tsunoda in Q3 are causing frustration and hopes to find more from the VCARB 01 chassis to turn his Saturdays around.

“I definitely felt good coming into the qualifying session. Obviously, two years ago here, I struggled with McLaren, but the reality is the result isn’t really that much better. I want to try and take a good look at myself and see what I’m missing, and then we’ll look at what the car can give me to help me out. I think the frustrating thing is that I can do it, but it’s obviously not happening frequently enough, and that’s where I’m kind of getting frustrated with myself.”
