British GT 2023: Thrilling Action Unfolds at Paul Ricard in International GT Open

The second round of the International GT Open season roared to life on July 22-23 at the iconic Paul Ricard circuit in France, with a stellar grid of 34 GT3 cars taking part in the PRO/AM event amidst the sweltering summer heat of Provence.

In a stunning display of pace, the #63 Oregon Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 of Pierre-Louis Chovet and Marc Paul dominated both qualifying sessions, securing pole position for Saturday’s race. However, it was Optimum Motorsport duo Samuel de Haas and Charlie Fagg who claimed victory in the first race, starting from second on the grid. Diego Menchaca and Marcos Siebert, driving the #17 Team Motopark Mercedes-AMG GT3, finished a mere 2 seconds behind, while Alfred Renauer and Patrick Kolb secured third place in the #99 Lionspeed GP Porsche 911 GT3 R, 20 seconds adrift.

The tables turned in race two, as Chovet executed a thrilling overtake on the Eastalent Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 in the final ten minutes, propelling the Oregon Team Lamborghini to victory from pole position. Menchaca and Siebert returned to the podium, securing third place in the #17 Team Motopark Mercedes-AMG GT3.

As the championship heads into the summer break, the battle for the top spot intensifies, with De Haas and Fagg holding a slender one-point lead over Menchaca and Siebert in the British GT Championship standings.
