Alpine’s Formula 1 Struggles Continue: Gasly Prepares for Tough Races Ahead

Alpine Facing Uphill Battle in 2024 Season

As the 2024 Formula 1 season unfolds, Pierre Gasly and his Alpine A524 are bracing themselves for a challenging period ahead, with no car upgrades on the horizon “in the near future”. The Anglo-French squad has faced a dismal start to the season, failing to reach Q3 except for one instance in Monaco, where Gasly secured a tenth-place finish. The team has managed to score a meager five points so far.

Currently languishing in eighth place in the constructors’ championship, Alpine is two points behind Haas, with both teams trailing behind the dominant Red Bull outfit, which boasts a 28-point tally. The team’s struggles have been evident, with Gasly and teammate Esteban Ocon managing to secure ninth and tenth places, respectively, in the Canadian Grand Prix, only thanks to the treacherous wet conditions.

“We won’t have any upgrades in the near future,” Gasly admitted after the Canadian GP. “We know the target is to have something a bit more significant at some stage in the year. [Qualifying in Montreal] was tough. I expect the next few races to be quite tough if it’s normal conditions, but this is Formula 1, and you always have chances at times.”

Gasly praised his team’s “good teamwork” after achieving its first double points finish of 2024. “That’s what we need until the end of the year, because we know Williams seems to have a competitive car,” he emphasized. The French driver acknowledged the need for his team to capitalize on any opportunities that arise, especially with Haas showcasing impressive pace at times.

Gasly Remains Cautious Ahead of Challenging Races

While Gasly expressed optimism about his team’s ability to manage races effectively, he remained cautious about the challenges ahead. “We know on days like today, we’ve got to make the best out of what we have, and we can’t afford to do any mistakes, can’t afford to take any unnecessary risks. It was well managed, and hopefully, we’re going to continue like that until the end of the year.”
