Pierre Gasly Brushes Off Deadline Talks Amidst Formula 1 Future Uncertainty with Alpine

As the 2024 Formula 1 season hurtles towards its climax, Pierre Gasly remains non-committal about his future with Alpine, following the news that teammate Esteban Ocon will exit the team at the end of the current campaign. Gasly’s current contract with the Anglo-French marque is set to expire, casting doubts over his stay with the team.

When quizzed about Ocon’s impending departure and its impact on his plans, Gasly downplayed the speculation, stating, “> To be honest, absolutely nothing. I think, you know, at the minute it’s quite clear the position I’m in.” The French driver added, “> And yeah, for my future at the moment, I have nothing really to announce. And then, yeah, you guys will know in due time.”

Despite being the favorite to sign an extension with Alpine, Gasly emphasized that he is in no rush to make a decision. “I don’t have a deadline,” he emphasized. “Particularly, and I think the market at the moment is quite open and everybody is aware of what opportunities are out there.” Gasly chose not to elaborate further, saying, “> I think everything is going well and we are in discussions. And that’s about it.”

The tumultuous relationship between Gasly and Ocon, which dates back to their karting days, has been well-documented. However, Gasly acknowledged that the pair have worked together professionally since last season. “It’s a long story between Esteban and myself,” he admitted. “And I think so far in the last year and a half, we managed to work and co-operate very professionally.” Gasly acknowledged that their rivalry has been intense, saying, “> It hasn’t always been easy, as you would imagine from two very competitive drivers.”

Ocon is reportedly in talks with Haas for a potential move, while Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan is the top contender to replace him. Other options being considered include Sauber drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, as well as Mick Schumacher, who competes with Alpine in the World Endurance Championship.

As the Formula 1 schedule heats up, Gasly’s future with Alpine remains a subject of speculation. With the Formula 1 calendar reaching its climax, all eyes will be on Gasly to see where he decides to take his career next. The Formula 1 news surrounding his future will be closely monitored, and fans are eagerly awaiting any updates on the Formula 1 standings.
