Formula 1 News: RB Racing Director Alan Permane Confident in Upgrades for Spanish Grand Prix

As the Formula 1 calendar enters its 10th round, the Spanish Grand Prix, RB Racing Director Alan Permane has expressed optimism that the team’s extensive upgrades will yield positive results without any “nasty surprises.” The Faenza-based squad has made significant strides since introducing new parts in Miami, emerging as the clear sixth-fastest team and occasionally challenging Aston Martin.

Permane revealed that the latest package, comprising five performance parts, will build upon the previous developments and is expected to bring the desired step forward, as predicted by simulations. “We’ll find out tomorrow afternoon [how big the step is],” Permane told media, including Motorsport Week. “It’s another development in a very similar direction to the one in Miami where we first had one in Miami, I think we had one in Imola as well.”

The RB Racing Director emphasized that the progress made will be relative to the competition ahead and in the midfield, acknowledging that “everyone’s moving, everyone’s bringing their own.” Despite this, Permane remains confident in RB’s processes to unlock inroads, stating that the focus remains on adding downforce, reducing drag, and improving the car’s efficiency and drivability.

When asked about the possibility of racing with the leading pack, Permane quipped, “Yeah, we’re racing the big boys then.” He reiterated that the method and formula for achieving this wouldn’t change, emphasizing the need to continue chipping away at the performance gap.

The latest developments are tailored towards enhancing the VCARB 01’s high-speed cornering, building upon the Miami updates. “Before we were focusing a little bit more on the higher-speed stuff, and this is in line with that,” Permane explained. “It’s another step in that. It’s a development of the last development if you like.”

As the Formula 1 schedule reaches its midpoint, RB’s upgrades will be closely watched, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome of the Spanish Grand Prix. Will the team be able to bridge the gap and challenge the top five? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for the latest Formula 1 news, standings, and calendar updates.
