Formula 1 Qualifying News: Norris Snatches Pole Position at Spanish Grand Prix
In a thrilling one-hour qualifying session, Lando Norris secured pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, edging out Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. The qualifying session was divided into three segments, with five cars eliminated in Q1 and Q2, followed by a top-10 shootout in Q3.
According to the Formula 1 qualifying results, Norris’ lap time of 1m11.383s in Q3 was enough to pip Verstappen by 0.02s, with Hamilton starting third, three tenths off the front row. This marks Norris’ second career pole position, cementing his position at the top of the Formula 1 standings.
During Q1, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc initially set the pace with a lap time of 1m12.257s, only to be beaten by Hamilton’s 1m12.143s. However, Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo (both Red Bull), and the Williams duo of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant were eliminated in the first segment.
In Q2, Verstappen set the benchmark with a lap time of 1m11.653s, 0.139s ahead of Hamilton. Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Valtteri Bottas (Sauber), Nico Hulkenberg (Haas), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), and Zhou Guanyu (Sauber) were knocked out in this segment.
As the top 10 drivers battled it out in Q3, Verstappen initially grabbed P1 with 1m11.673s, but Norris ultimately snatched the top spot.
