Formula 1 News: Alonso Demands More Action, Less Talk from Aston Martin Team
Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has delivered a candid assessment of his Aston Martin team’s performance in the Spanish Grand Prix, criticizing their lack of pace and downforce. After finishing a disappointing 12th in his home race, Alonso insisted that the team “did not deserve to score any point” and needs to focus on delivering results rather than making promises.
Alonso’s disappointing result marks a poor run for the Spaniard, who has only finished inside the points in one of the last four races. Speaking after the race, he expressed his frustration, saying, “I am a little bit disappointed because we didn’t score any point. We deserved not to score any point because we didn’t have the pace the whole weekend.“
The 41-year-old pinpointed the lack of downforce on the AMR24 as a major issue, which resulted in excessive tire degradation and a difficult race. Alonso warned that the team will face similar challenges in Austria and Silverstone, adding that they need to stop making claims of improvements and start showing them on track.

“It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing you can do now, so you start thinking in Austria immediately when you see the chequered flag and what you can do differently,” Alonso said. “But I think it’s gonna be painful as well because it has some characteristics of Barcelona, with the long corners. It’s going to be another tough weekend, also in Silverstone, arguably.”
Alonso emphasized the need for the team to work harder and deliver results, rather than just talking about improvements. “We cannot get too frustrated. It’s time to work harder, to talk less, to deliver more. It’s what we want to do,” he said.
Formula 1 Standings: Alonso’s Disappointment
Aston Martin’s failure to make incremental gains with each set-up upgrade has been a fundamental flaw, and Alonso believes this needs to change. He said, “I’m looking forward, but we’ve been upgrading the car a lot and we didn’t deliver the results. So now it’s also a matter of whatever we bring to the track, it does deliver what we expect and we start getting better and better.“
When asked why the team has struggled to get it right, Alonso pointed to his role as a driver, saying, “I’m a driver, not a technician.” The pressure is now on Aston Martin to respond to Alonso’s criticism and deliver improvements in the upcoming races.
