Aston Martin Tells Alonso to “Hang On” Amidst Ongoing Formula 1 Struggles

In the midst of a tough season, Aston Martin has urged Fernando Alonso to be patient, as the team battles to find time to bring much-needed improvements to their Formula 1 car. Alonso’s frustration was evident after the Spanish Grand Prix, where the lack of performance from the AMR24 left both him and teammate Lance Stroll out of the points.

“I share his optimism, but also I have to share the optimism,” said Mike Krack, Team Principal of Aston Martin F1 Team. “From what I’ve seen, it’s encouraging. We have clearly a better understanding than we had before. That is also what makes us confident looking forward.” (Source: Motorsport Images)

In an effort to turn their season around, Aston Martin is working hard to develop solutions to the car’s key weaknesses, including mid-turn understeer through long corners. Although these issues are not easy to fix, the team is hoping that imminent developments, including an upgrade set to debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix, will bring the necessary improvements.

However, the team’s situation is complicated by the tight racing schedule, with five races taking place in just six weeks. This leaves little time for the team to build on knowledge gained at each race and work on bringing improvements. “That is one of the issues that you have,” explained Krack. “You have now five races in six weeks. We have had quite a lot of understanding after Monaco, Imola, and Canada as well, where we scored 14 points by the way with the same car, but it’s about fixing them. You have no time. That’s the main problem at the moment.”

Despite Aston Martin’s troubled past with upgrades not delivering as expected, there appears to be a growing sense of optimism within the team that the forthcoming upgrades will make a significant difference. Alonso believes that the upgrades can make the difference, and Krack shares his optimism.

Aston Martin’s owners, the Stroll family, are known for their high expectations, but Krack is confident that they understand the challenges faced by the team. “Yeah, but he’s also very knowledgeable about how Formula 1 works, how Formula 1 operates,” Krack said of Lawrence Stroll. “So even if he’s not patient, he knows that making parts takes time. So he’s up to date with everything and it’s for us now to deliver them.”

As the Formula 1 calendar moves forward, Aston Martin will be under pressure to deliver improvements and reinvigorate their 2024 campaign. With Alonso and Stroll at the wheel, the team will be hoping to turn their season around and climb up the championship standings. Formula 1 today is all about finding that extra edge, and Aston Martin knows that time is of the essence.
