Alpine F1 Team Secures Pierre Gasly with Multi-Year Contract Extension

Formula 1 news: In a significant development, the Alpine Formula 1 team confirmed on Thursday that Pierre Gasly will continue to drive for the outfit through a multi-year contract extension. This news comes as a boost to the Anglo-French team, which has faced a tumultuous 2024 season, marked by an uncompetitive and overweight car that led to the exit of Technical Director Matt Harman and Head of Aerodynamics Dirk de Beer.

Gasly, who joined Alpine in 2023, was initially contracted until the end of this season. However, unlike his teammate Esteban Ocon, who has decided to part ways with the team, Gasly has committed to the project moving forward. The French driver expressed his delight at the extension, saying, “I feel very much at home at this great team. I enjoy being a real part of both the Formula 1 project and the wider Alpine Cars vision.”

As the Formula 1 calendar unfolds, Gasly’s new deal will see him pilot Alpine’s cars through the new 2026 Formula 1 ruleset, providing ample opportunity for the team to climb the competitive order. Currently, Alpine is 9th in the Formula 1 standings, with Gasly’s recent points streak a positive sign for the team.

While Gasly’s future is secure, it remains unclear who will partner him at Alpine for 2025 and beyond. The team is evaluating its Junior Driver Jack Doohan through a series of tests in its 2022 F1 car, and FIA World Endurance Championship driver Mick Schumacher is also being touted as a potential replacement. Rumors have also emerged about a possible bid to sign Carlos Sainz, with an alleged offer made during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.

Team Principal Bruno Famin expressed his satisfaction with Gasly’s contract extension, saying, “The extension of Pierre’s contract with the team is very pleasing. He is a driver with huge experience in Formula 1 and continues to show huge amounts of potential on-track. For Alpine as a brand, he is a great ambassador and we therefore look forward to continuing our collaboration.”

As the Formula 1 today landscape continues to evolve, Alpine’s focus remains on improving its current package, with high ambitions for the remainder of the season. With Gasly’s future secure, the team can now turn its attention to finding the ideal teammate to complement its star driver.
