McLaren Unleashes Upgrades to Challenge Red Bull’s Dominance at Austrian Grand Prix

In the latest Formula 1 news, McLaren is gearing up to take on Red Bull at this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, introducing a raft of upgrades to its MCL38 car to bridge the gap with the championship leaders. The Woking-based squad has been Red Bull’s most consistent challenger since debuting developments in Miami, which powered Lando Norris to his maiden win.

Despite Ferrari and Mercedes also bringing revised parts to their respective cars, McLaren remains committed to becoming the pacesetting benchmark. According to the FIA’s official upgrades sheet, the team will debut a new front wing with an altered geometry, which will work in tandem with an updated front suspension to improve flow conditioning.

“We are determined to keep the pressure on Red Bull and challenge for the top spots. These upgrades are a testament to our hard work and dedication to closing the performance gap.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes has adopted a modified beam wing on its W15 charger, designed to reduce load and drag. Ferrari, seeking to unlock the full potential of its new package, will sport additional cooling louvres on its SF-24 at the Red Bull Ring.

Red Bull, still trying to understand the wholesale upgrades it introduced at the previous round, will run split-spec cars during FP1. Additionally, Daniel Ricciardo hinted that the Faenza-based team will deliver more parts this weekend, including amendments to the winglets on the rear drum.

Aston Martin, Haas, Sauber, and Williams have opted not to declare any upgrades ahead of this weekend’s action, which will feature a condensed one-hour practice session due to the Sprint format being used.

As the Formula 1 calendar heats up, teams are pushing the limits to stay ahead in the standings. McLaren’s upgrades could be the key to catching Red Bull, but only time will tell. Stay tuned for the latest Formula 1 news, Formula 1 tyre updates, and Formula 1 standings as the Austrian Grand Prix unfolds.
