In a thrilling turn of events at the 2021 Spa 24 Hours, a daring tyre strategy call by WRT almost stole the show, but Pier Guidi’s decisive intervention ultimately secured victory for Iron Lynx.
As the rain clouds gathered over the iconic Belgian circuit, the Iron Lynx Ferrari team, piloting the AF Corse-run 488 GT3 Evo, seemed poised to take the win. The trio of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Nicklas Nielsen, and Come Ledogar had dominated the race, building a comfortable gap over their closest rivals, the WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo driven by Dries Vanthoor, Kelvin van der Linde, and Charles Weerts. However, WRT team boss Vincent Vosse was not about to give up, making a bold gamble that would change the course of the race.
“We made the decision to stay out on slicks when everyone else pitted for wets, and it paid off,” said Vosse. “We were able to close the gap and put pressure on the Iron Lynx Ferrari.”
The daring strategy by WRT paid off, and they were able to close the gap on the leading Iron Lynx Ferrari. As the rain continued to fall, the WRT Audi began to close in on the leaders, setting up a thrilling finale.
However, Pier Guidi was not about to let the victory slip away. In a display of skill and determination, he was able to hold off the WRT Audi and secure the win for Iron Lynx.
“It was a tough race, and the tyre strategy call by WRT really put us under pressure,” said Pier Guidi. “But we kept our composure and were able to bring home the win for Iron Lynx. I’m incredibly proud of the team and my co-drivers for their hard work and dedication.”
