Formula E News: DS Penske Eyes Victory in Shanghai with Experience and Preparation

The Formula E calendar has finally arrived in Shanghai, and DS Penske is gearing up for a thrilling weekend of electric racing. With a new track to conquer, the French-American team is confident in their preparation and experience, having excelled in circuits that have never seen a Formula E car before. This strategic approach has served them well, particularly with drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne, who have led the pack in similar configurations.

    The Shanghai Circuit

The Shanghai circuit, measuring 3.05 km with 12 bends, presents a unique challenge for the electric single-seaters. As a permanent track adapted for Formula E, it doesn’t require the same energy consumption calculations as a city-centre track. The start is particularly intriguing, with the first few bends forming a snail’s pace before opening up to a long straight that ends in a hairpin. The rest of the lap features fast corners and a chicane before the pit straight.

    Vergne’s Optimism

Vergne, who won the last Formula E race in China back in 2019 on the Sanya circuit, is optimistic about their chances. “Since the start of the season, we’ve seen that our work in the simulator has had a positive impact on the track. We’re often well-placed in practice as well as in qualifying, where we’ve regularly been above the quarter-final stage. We still don’t know anything about the level of each driver on the Shanghai track, but I hope that the plans we have drawn up will enable us to fight at the front.”

    DS Penske’s Achievements

The DS Penske team arrives in Shanghai on the back of a milestone 50th podium (from 115 starts) in Berlin just two weeks ago. With 16 victories and four titles under their belt, including two constructors’ titles, they are the team with the most awards in Formula E.

Will their tally of victories and titles increase after the two races in Shanghai? Find out on Saturday evening, after the finish of the first race. The Formula E standings are about to get a lot more interesting.
