    Formula 1: Silverstone Practice Session Sees McLaren and Mercedes Show Strong Pace

    The first practice sessions of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone have come to a close, with McLaren and Mercedes showing strong performances. Lando Norris topped the timesheets in both FP1 and FP2, ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished third and second respectively.

    Lewis Hamilton and George Russell of Mercedes ended the day in sixth and tenth positions, with Hamilton admitting that the team still has work to do to catch up with the leaders. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished fifth, while Carlos Sainz struggled to find the right pace and ended the day in eighth.

    Aston Martin had a positive day, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll looking competitive and finishing 11th and ninth respectively. AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda struggled after a spin in FP1, but managed to recover in FP2, while Williams’ Alex Albon finished 13th and Logan Sargeant 17th. Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas finished 12th, with teammate Zhou Guanyu 18th.

    The drivers will have to contend with changing weather conditions over the rest of the weekend, which could shake up the leaderboard. Qualifying takes place on Saturday, with the main event on Sunday.
