Formula 1 News: Mercedes to Unleash Further Upgrades in Budapest and Spa After British Grand Prix Triumph

Mercedes-AMG F1 Team is set to continue its development push, with incremental upgrades planned for the upcoming Formula 1 races in Budapest and Spa, following their impressive win at the British Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton’s emotional ninth home win at Silverstone, his 104th grand prix victory, marked a significant milestone for the Brackley-based team. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion held off a strong challenge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in a thrilling mixed-weather race.

This victory comes on the back of George Russell’s triumph in Austria, where Verstappen and Lando Norris were involved in a highly publicized clash. However, at Silverstone, Mercedes demonstrated its pace and execution, with Russell and Hamilton locking out the front row, and ultimately securing a well-deserved win.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff was ecstatic about the team’s recent upgrade trajectory, which has finally started to pay dividends. “There’s more to come in terms of performance,” Wolff said. “We’re bringing updates to Budapest and Spa. We mustn’t get carried away, we had a win last week benefiting from [Verstappen and Norris] tangling, but today we have an honest win.

Wolff emphasized that the team’s development efforts have finally “clicked,” allowing Hamilton to secure a “fairytale” victory before his move to Ferrari in 2025. “When you consider that five races ago we weren’t even a contender for the podium, which looked like the third year of non-performance, then it clicked,” he explained.

Hamilton’s victory was not without its challenges, as he had to fend off Verstappen’s late charge on more durable hard tyres. Wolff justified the team’s tyre choice, saying, “We didn’t have mediums [left], that was very simple for us. We didn’t believe the hard was the right tyre to go. In hindsight probably the right order of priority would be medium, hard and soft, that’s what would have been the quickest.

With its recent successes, Mercedes is confident about its Formula 1 standings, and the team is committed to further improving its Formula 1 tyres and car performance. As the Formula 1 calendar heads into the summer break, Mercedes is poised to continue its upward trajectory, making the remaining races even more exciting for Formula 1 fans.
