Pierre Gasly Urges Alpine to Overcome “Mistakes” Amidst Troubled Campaign

As the Formula 1 community heads into the summer break, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly is calling for his team to eliminate errors that have plagued their season thus far. The Enstone-and-Viry outfit has struggled to make an impact, with its car lagging behind the rest of the pack and currently sitting in 8th place in the constructors’ standings. According to Gasly, the problems have been relentless, saying he has faced “problems on top of problems” in recent weeks.

    Struggling for Consistent Results

Despite scoring his first points of the season at Monaco, Gasly has only managed to add three more top 10 finishes to his tally since then. However, his promising form was halted by a dismal did-not-start at Silverstone due to a gearbox issue, which was followed by a hydraulics problem that forced him to retire at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The season’s final race before the summer break in Belgium proved another frustrating outing for Gasly. As he struggled to fight for points due to a lack of speed in a straightline, he was hampered by yet another issue. “It was absolutely terrible down the straights,” the French driver lamented, citing an engine temperature problem that caused him to lose seven tenths every lap.

    Calling for Improvements

Gasly has no qualms about the root cause of Alpine’s troubles: “We just made way too many mistakes as a team. It’s been a tough start to the season.” With only 10 points gathered in the first half of the year, he added, “We must do a lot better in the second part of the year.”

    Management Instability Exacerbating Issues

Formula 1 issues have been exacerbated for Alpine by the instability in its management and technical teams in recent years. Just weeks ago, team principal Bruno Famin announced his departure, marking the fifth major change in leadership since Renault reincarnated as Alpine in 2016.

When asked about the impact Famin’s departure would have on the team’s performance, Gasly maintained optimism, saying, “I think the goals are clear as a team… Bruno’s departure doesn’t change the entire team.” As the team adjusts to the latest management changes, Gasly hopes their Formula 1 problems will disappear, paving the way for a competitive second half of the season.
