Formula 1 Drives Towards Sustainability with Aggreko Partnership

As Formula 1 continues its relentless pursuit of a Net Zero carbon footprint by 2030, the organization has announced a groundbreaking multi-year partnership with Aggreko, a world-renowned provider of temporary power solutions, to introduce cutting-edge low-carbon energy generation systems at all European Grands Prix starting from the 2025 season. As part of this deal, Aggreko will become an Official Provider of F1, further solidifying the sport’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

This partnership is the culmination of a collaborative effort that began in 2023, when Aggreko and Formula 1 piloted a centralized power generation compound at the Austrian Grand Prix. This innovative approach resulted in a staggering 90% reduction in carbon emissions within the Paddock, Pit Lane, and broadcast areas compared to the 2022 event.

“The entire paddock is part of our Net Zero by 2030 commitment, and solutions like the low-carbon energy generation system combine technological innovation with coordinated action. In practice, this means that we can achieve significant carbon reductions in this space โ€“ and we look forward to continuing to showcase how we can deliver more sustainable events.”

The compound is powered by a range of sustainable energy sources, including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biofuel, solar panels, and battery storage systems. Following successful trials at the Red Bull Ring and the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2024, the system will be implemented across all European Grands Prix from 2025, ensuring a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

This expanded partnership means that Formula 1, F1 Teams, and the FIA will no longer require individual generators, as the centralized system will provide sufficient power to supply all garages and motorhomes throughout the weekend. Additionally, the system will also power crucial infrastructure such as the Pit Wall, the Timing Room, the Formula 1 Event Technical Centre (ETC), and the International TV Compound.

“Aggreko has an unrivalled track record of delivering power transition solutions across the globe, in the most demanding, challenging, and mission-critical environments to ensure the needs of our clients are met consistently to the highest standards. As a global leader, we have an important role to play in the energy transition, and we’re thrilled that Formula 1 has chosen Aggreko to help them on their journey to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030.”

As Formula 1 continues to drive innovation in sustainability, this partnership marks a significant milestone in the sport’s calendar, solidifying its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while pushing the boundaries of Formula 1 technology and Formula 1 energy solutions.
