Formula 1 News: Leclerc Wins Thrilling Italian Grand Prix at Monza
Charles Leclerc secured his second Monza win, leading Ferrari to victory joy in front of their home crowd. The Monegasque driver’s exceptional tyre management allowed him to take the chequered flag by just over two seconds, ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
Leclerc’s triumph marked Ferrari’s 20th win at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, a milestone achieved by no other team at the same circuit. The 1-2 finish for Ferrari and McLaren respectively saw Norris finish third, behind Piastri, in a race that saw strategic battles and overtaking moves.
“It’s incredible to win here in Monza. The support from the tifosi [Ferrari fans] is always incredible, and to deliver a win for them is a dream come true.”
- Charles Leclerc, Ferrari Driver
Meanwhile, Mercedes saw a disappointing day, with Lewis Hamilton finishing fifth and George Russell retiring early due to a contact with Nico Hulkenberg. Their team principal, Laurent Mekies, expressed frustration with the team’s performance.
The thrilling victory at Monza further strengthens Leclerc’s championship lead, as the F1 circus heads to Singapore for the next round of the season.
