Formula 1 News: Alonso to Arrive Late in Brazil Due to Ongoing Health Issues
Formula 1 today faces a notable absentee as Fernando Alonso, the legendary Spanish driver, will be a late arrival at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Alonso, who celebrated his 400th Formula 1 weekend at the Mexico City Grand Prix, has been battling an intestinal infection that forced him to return to Europe for specialist treatment.
Although Alonso managed to participate in the Mexico City Grand Prix, he confessed that his physical condition was not at its best. “I’ve been not 100% physically last few days,” he admitted, before eventually retiring from the race. The infection, which caused him to miss the media day, required immediate attention, and Alonso had to fly back to Europe for treatment.
Fortunately, the treatment seems to have been effective, and Alonso is now scheduled to arrive in Brazil in time for Friday’s opening practice. However, he will again miss Thursday’s media activities. An Aston Martin statement assured fans, “The extra day of treatment has delayed his travel plans to Brazil but ensures he will be ready for this weekend’s racing.”
With the Brazilian Grand Prix being a sprint race, offering extra points, Alonso is eager to be in top physical shape to capitalize on any opportunities that arise. His health will be closely monitored, and should any complications occur, Aston Martin’s reserve driver, Felipe Drugovich, will be on standby to replace him.
Drugovich, who hails from Brazil, will be present at his home race and was looking forward to supporting the team. “I’ll be doing a lot of interviews with local media, keeping across all the sessions when Lance and Fernando are out on track, and supporting the team with feedback. I’ll enjoy being home as well. The Sao Paulo Grand Prix is always one I love attending because I get a lot of attention from the crowd and the media and I try and embrace that. Their support means a lot.”
Stay tuned for the latest Formula 1 standings and Formula 1 calendar updates as the season reaches its climax.
