In the Latest Thrilling Chapter of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Porsche Secures Second Win of the Season
Jota’s Customer 963 LMDh Triumphs at Spa
In the latest thrilling chapter of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Porsche secured their second win of the season at Spa last Saturday. However, the real story of the day was the triumphant customer 963 LMDh entry fielded by the British Jota squad, which took the top spot on the podium.
Drivers Will Stevens and Callum Ilott relied on a mix of skill and good fortune to claim victory, as the privateer teams, including Proton Competition, outperformed the factory entries.
“Stevens and Ilott, racing as a duo due to regular team-mate Norman Nato’s commitment to the Berlin Formula E round, capitalized on a contentious restart to take the lead in the final 100 minutes of the race.”
Ilott managed to edge out Kevin Estre in the top-performing Porsche Penske Motorsport (PPM) car, shared with Laurens Vanthoor and Andre Lotterer, to secure the win. The race ultimately boiled down to a two-car battle, with the rest of the field, including the Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercars that started from pole and second, falling off the pace.
This WEC 2023 victory marks a significant milestone for the customer Jota squad, and Porsche’s second win of the season will undoubtedly provide a boost ahead of the next round. As the FIA WEC 2023 calendar unfolds, Porsche will be looking to build on this success and potentially set the stage for a strong WEC 2024 campaign.
