WRC News: Reigning WRC2 World Champion Emil Lindholm Joins Hyundai Motorsport for 2023 Campaign

In a significant move, WRC2 world champion Emil Lindholm has announced his switch to Hyundai Motorsport, leaving Toksport WRT after their successful partnership at Rally Italia Sardegna. The Finnish driver and his co-driver Reeta Hämäläinen have been recruited for the re-launched Hyundai Motorsport Driver Development Programme, marking a new chapter in their WRC journey.

As part of the deal, Lindholm and Hämäläinen will compete in at least two WRC2 events this summer, starting with Rally Estonia and Rally Finland, with additional outings to be confirmed later. Teemu Suninen, Lindholm’s fellow countryman, will take the reins of the third Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car in Estonia and Finland, while Fabrizio Zaldivar will continue his WRC2 program as planned.

Lindholm expressed his excitement about joining the Hyundai Motorsport team, citing the brand’s impressive track record in rallying and commitment to nurturing young talent. “I see Rally Estonia as the perfect starting point for my journey with the team; it’s been a strong event for both myself and the team in the past, which brings me a good deal of confidence. I firmly believe that we have every opportunity to step on the podium multiple times this season,” he said.

This move is a significant development in the WRC 2023 calendar, with Hyundai Motorsport bolstering their WRC2 team with the reigning champion. The WRC calendar 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting season, and fans will be eager to see Lindholm in action with his new team.
