Formula 1 News: Renault CEO Luca de Meo Rules Out Selling Alpine F1 Team Amidst Struggles

Despite a challenging start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo has categorically denied any plans to sell the Alpine F1 team, either in part or entirety. The Enstone-based squad has struggled with its A524 car, starting the season at the back of the grid and scoring only two points so far.

    Renault’s Commitment to Formula 1

Speculation about the team’s future has been rife, with potential buyers such as Andretti and Chinese company Geely rumored to be interested. However, de Meo emphasized that the Renault Group is committed to Formula 1 and has no intention of selling the team. “I want to make this very clear. There is no way we are going to give up,” he stated in an exclusive interview with Autocar magazine.

    Addressing Alpine’s Struggles

Formula 1 Standings have been a concern for Alpine, but de Meo believes the team’s current difficulties are a result of a combination of mistakes with the engine and chassis. “When we began the hybrid era [in 2014], our engine didn’t perform. We had been world champions with Red Bull but with hybrid, things went wrong.”

De Meo acknowledges that the team’s current performance level is not good enough, but he is confident that with a quality team of top-notch people, racing rage, and collaboration, Alpine can move forward and become a top team in Formula 1.

The Importance of Alpine’s Racing Heritage

The Renault Group CEO also emphasized the importance of F1 being at the core of Alpine, highlighting the brand’s rich history and culture. “This brand is totally legitimate because it was always in competition. But it can do much better, and I don’t want to miss the opportunity,” he said.

With the Formula 1 calendar stretching ahead, de Meo’s commitment to Alpine F1 and the Renault Group’s backing will be crucial in helping the team overcome its current struggles and achieve success in the world of Formula 1 news.
