Red Bull’s Perez Extension Sparks Domino Effect in Driver Market, Tsunoda’s Future Uncertain

Formula 1 news took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as Red Bull announced a two-year extension for Sergio Perez, locking him in alongside Max Verstappen until the 2026 season. This move has significant implications for the driver market, particularly for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who now faces a choice between Williams and Audi.

The ripple effect also reaches Red Bull’s junior drivers, including Yuki Tsunoda, Daniel Ricciardo, and Liam Lawson. Tsunoda’s impressive performances in 2024 had made him a strong candidate for promotion, but Perez’s extension means the Japanese driver will likely spend at least another season with Red Bull’s sister team in 2025.

“I would like to see more commitment from the contract. Obviously, I’m already committed with Red Bull a lot, and hopefully, I can have a bit more commitment from them.”

While Tsunoda expressed contentment with his current situation, he emphasized the need for “more commitment from Red Bull regarding his future options.” He wants to see a stronger contractual commitment from the team.

Despite this, Tsunoda remains focused on his current season, acknowledging that Perez’s performance over the next two years will be crucial.

“Even these two years, [Perez] has to still perform, and in this kind of environment, anything can happen. So, congratulations to him, and other than that. For me, I just keep focusing on what I’m doing and just proving myself.”

The Japanese driver also revealed that he has received interest from rival teams, giving him potential options for the future.

“The good thing is that the other teams are starting to get interested in me. I also got a couple of options from the others, which is growing. It’s a good thing that I’m able to grow my value as well, especially like this interesting drivers’ market.”

Tsunoda reiterated his priority lies with Red Bull, stating, “First of all, my priority is Red Bull. I want to make sure we’re on the same page because Red Bull is part of my life so far, and without them, I wouldn’t achieve this much.”
