Leclerc Urges Ferrari Not to “Overreact” After Canadian Grand Prix Woe

In the wake of a disappointing Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc has emphasized that Ferrari should not “overreact” to the team’s double retirement, which was largely caused by an engine issue. The Monegasque driver made an impressive start from 11th, quickly overtaking Yuki Tsunoda and entering the points, but was soon hampered by an engine gremlin that cost him around five-tenths on the straights.

Speaking to the press, Leclerc shielded Ferrari from criticism, stating that the power unit fault forced the team to take risks, which ultimately didn’t pay off. “Honestly, there’s not much more to say apart from the engine issue cost us everything,” Leclerc said. “Then at one point, we decided to try going on slicks when we knew it was going to be more chances that it wouldn’t work. But we had to test something because anyway, with the engine issues we had, we would have been out of the points anyway.”

Leclerc’s pragmatic approach is a testament to his maturity as a driver, as he acknowledged that Ferrari’s decision to gamble on the improving track conditions was a last resort given the dwindling prospects. Moreover, he conceded that the Maranello-based squad must delve deeper into the engine issue, which could potentially hinder their progress in the championship.

When asked about the team’s performance, Leclerc emphasized that Ferrari should not be too hard on themselves, citing the fluctuations in form throughout the season. “I think we shouldn’t overreact with the pace of the car. I mean, you’ve got good weekends, you’ve got bad weekends,” he reiterated. “Yesterday, we missed Q3 by three hundredths. We were definitely not feeling good with the car, and we’ve got to work on that and try to understand what went wrong.”

In light of this, Leclerc urged Ferrari to maintain a level head, much like they did after their Monaco win, and not let the disappointment of the Canadian Grand Prix cloud their judgment. As the Formula 1 calendar moves forward, Ferrari will need to regroup and refocus to challenge Red Bull’s supremacy in the championship standings. With the next race just around the corner, fans of Formula 1 news will be eagerly anticipating Ferrari’s response to this setback.
