Indycar News: Chadwick Makes History, Eyes IndyCar Promotion for 2023
In a breakthrough Indy NXT victory, three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick became the first female winner of a road course Indy NXT or Indy Lights event in the history of the category, and the first woman to take the top spot on any course since Pippa Mann in 2010. The British driver’s impressive performance has raised hopes for a potential IndyCar promotion in the 2023 season.
“It’s early to say. One race win isn’t going to guarantee anything, so I need to keep performing and keep focusing on that. I’d love to be able to go to IndyCar next year.”

However, Chadwick remains grounded and focused on the task at hand, aware that one race win is not enough to secure a spot in the top-tier IndyCar series. The prospect of Chadwick competing in IndyCar would not only be a milestone for women in motorsport but also bring significant PR benefits to the series.
When asked if her gender could work in her favor for a promotion, Chadwick reflected, “Potentially, but maybe more so three or four years ago. I don’t know. Now, I look at the grid in IndyCar and I can’t see an obvious opening.”
Chadwick emphasized the importance of securing a top-team spot, stating, “I want to do it properly, I want to be with a top team, and I want to do the championship and be competitive. I don’t want to go to a smaller team and be on the back foot on a one-year deal or anything like that. I want the best opportunity I can source.”
With the IndyCar 2023 schedule looming, Chadwick knows she needs to maintain her focus on performance to secure a coveted spot on the grid. “You look at the drivers who fill those seats and I don’t think anyone would want to replace them, regardless of who you are, so I’ve just got to keep focusing on performance. If I can get some more results, maybe that is going to be my best shot, but I don’t think there are any back doors into anything these days.”
Indycar fans will be keeping a close eye on Chadwick’s progress, and her determination to secure a top-team spot in the 2023 season. With her impressive Indy NXT win under her belt, the British driver is well on her way to making her mark in the Indycar news scene.
