French Racing Driver Doriane Pin Sidelined with Fractured Ribs, to Miss WEC’s Le Mans and FRECA Round
In a recent social media post, Doriane Pin announced that she will be unable to participate in the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans, where she was set to share the Iron Dames’ #85 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 in the WEC’s LMGT3 class alongside teammates Sarah Bovy and Michelle Gatting. The Frenchwoman will also miss the next Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) round at Zandvoort on 8-9 June.
Pin’s withdrawal comes after she experienced discomfort during the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine’s second Spa-Francorchamps race last weekend. Following further medical checks, she revealed that she has fractured ribs, although the origin of the injury remains unclear.
“Obviously, it means that I need time to heal,” Pin explained. “So we have made the difficult decision with my team to not race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FRECA races in Zandvoort. This decision is tough and sad, especially since Le Mans is one of the biggest races of the year, and for me, it’s a very special one.”
Rahel Frey will replace Pin at Circuit de la Sarthe, bringing her experience of racing with Iron Lynx/Iron Dames alongside Bovy and Gatting in previous years, including a best result of fourth in the LMGTE Am category in 2023.
Despite this setback, Pin is having a busy 2024 season, having joined the Mercedes Young Driver Academy in January. She has made a successful transition from sportscar racing to single-seaters, joining Prema Racing and taking one victory during an incomplete campaign in the Formula 4 UAE championship. Pin has since become an F1 Academy frontrunner and made a more arduous FRECA debut.
Although she will continue to race in the WEC with Iron Dames, Pin recently clarified that she would focus solely on single-seaters from 2025 onwards. The 20-year-old plans to return to the track at the F1 Academy’s Barcelona round on 21-23 June.
This news comes as the WEC 2024 season is underway, with the FIA WEC calendar 2023 having already seen some exciting races. Pin’s fans will be eagerly awaiting her return to the track, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
