Formula E: DS Penske Duo Gears Up for Busy End to 2023 Season with Berlin Double-Header
As the 2023 Formula E season enters its second half, drivers Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne are bracing themselves for a grueling schedule, with four double-headers on the horizon, including the upcoming Berlin races. Fresh from his podium finish in Monaco, Vandoorne jetted off to the F1 Grand Prix in Miami before reuniting with Vergne for a series of simulator sessions in preparation for the Berlin event.
Meanwhile, Vergne has been closely monitoring preparations for the Spa 6 Hours with Peugeot in Endurance, ahead of the Le Mans 24 Hours in just over a month’s time. The French driver’s plates are certainly full, but he’s not alone โ the entire DS Penske team is working tirelessly to ensure their drivers are in top form for the demanding season finale.
The Berlin Double-Header
The upcoming Berlin double-header, taking place on the revamped 2.343km circuit, promises to be a thrilling spectacle. The new layout boasts two straights, two hairpins, and a diverse range of corners, with two prime overtaking opportunities to spice up the action. “A circuit with a modular layout like Berlin is unique in the season,” Vergne explains. “We’re starting from a very vast surface that is entirely free to use, which means we can design a circuit that matches the performance of our Gen3s.“
With a strong record in Berlin, including a pole position in 2015 and two podium finishes in 2019 and 2022, Vergne is eager to return to the track. “I couldn’t wait to work on it in the simulator. With the team, we identified several possible strategies and we were able to see that our DS E-TENSE FE23s were at the peak of their performance,” he says.
For Vandoorne, Berlin holds fond memories, having secured a pole position and victory in 2020. As the Formula E standings heat up, a win in Berlin could catapult Vergne into the championship lead, having already accumulated the most points in the series before the Monaco race.
With the DS Penske team boasting three titles between their drivers in nine seasons, the Franco-American outfit is confident in its ability to tackle the demanding Formula E calendar. As the season hurtles towards its conclusion, fans can expect an electrifying climax to the 2023 Formula E campaign.
