DS Penske Team Secures Podium Finish in Formula E Berlin E-Prix

    BERLIN, GERMANY – MAY 2023

After their impressive third and fourth place finishes in Monaco a fortnight ago, Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne of the DS Penske Team arrived in Berlin with a firm intention of taking another significant points haul in the Formula E 2023 season. They successfully achieved their goal in the very first race of the Berlin E-Prix.

Given their extensive knowledge of the track, having competed in Berlin since the championship’s inception, the duo was well-equipped to tackle the new 2.3km circuit featuring 15 bends and a unique ‘runway’ type concrete surface. Eugenio Franzetti, Director of DS Performance, praised the team’s ability to adapt to the challenging new track, saying, “This new circuit represents a challenge for both the drivers and the whole team, and I’m pleased that we were able to meet it.”

Throughout the practice sessions, Vandoorne consistently posted impressive lap times, while Vergne also performed strongly, even outpacing his teammate in the second session. As qualifying got underway in fine weather, both drivers showcased their skills, progressing to the quarter-finals and eventually earning a spot in the top 10.

“It’s a shame to miss out on the three points from pole position, but the car is incredible, and we can be confident for the future. The important thing now is to do the best job we can for the team and try to finish on the podium.”

The race itself was intense, with multiple twists and turns. After just three laps, the two DS Penske cars were in the lead, and the teamwork began. However, the Attack mode trigger zone, located far from the trajectory, resulted in a loss of multiple positions. Vandoorne’s tactical skills limited the damage, and despite being caught up in a collision involving several cars, he managed to recover and finish seventh.

In the end, Vergne secured a well-deserved second place, praising the team’s performance, saying, “It was a very intense race. I lacked a bit of energy, but our pace was very good, and I’m very happy with this podium. It’s all very reassuring for the future.”

The DS Penske Team will be looking to build on this success in the second race of the Berlin E-Prix, scheduled to take place this Sunday at 3:03 pm local time.
