    Extreme H Unveils Pioneer 25, the Future of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Racing

    Pioneering Hydrogen-Powered Motorsport

    In a significant milestone, Extreme H has revealed its pioneering vehicle, the Pioneer 25, which will take center stage when the series transitions from Extreme E in 2025. Designed and built by Spark Racing Technology, the same minds behind the Spark ODYSSEY 21, this revolutionary car is set to showcase the capabilities of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the world of motorsport.

    Measuring 6 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 2.4 meters in height, the Pioneer 25 weighs in at 2,200 kilograms, slightly heavier than its predecessor. The XE’s dimensions, in comparison, stand at 4.4ร—2.3ร—1.8 meters, with a lighter weight of 1,650 kilograms. The Pioneer 25 boasts a 50-liter hydrogen fuel cell, courtesy of Symbio, capable of producing 75 kW of output. This energy is then relayed into a 325 kW battery pack from Fortescue ZERO, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds, matching the performance of the ODYSSEY 21.

    “We’ve taken the lessons learned from the ODYSSEY 21 and applied them to the Pioneer 25, creating an all-new chassis and a purpose-built racing car tailored to the hydrogen fuel cell,” explained Mark Grain, Extreme H’s technical director. “Our goal was to create more intense racing and faster cars. The Pioneer 25 represents a significant upgrade, with overall performance taking a major leap forward. The new suspension geometry, combined with FOX’s driver-adjustable shock absorbers, provides an excellent platform for the power and torque available to drivers.”

    Towards an FIA World Championship

    Extreme H has already conducted its first test with the Pioneer 25 in December, marking a crucial step in the series’ development. Originally slated for a 2024 debut, Extreme H has pushed its launch back to 2025, with ambitious plans to become an FIA World Championship by 2026.
