Formula 1 News: Daniel Ricciardo Left Baffled by RB’s Disappointing Spanish Grand Prix Performance
In the aftermath of a dismal Spanish Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo expressed his confusion regarding RB’s poor results, terming it “really strange.” The Faenza-based team had brought a heavily revised Formula 1 challenger to Barcelona, but it failed to provide a performance edge over rivals Aston Martin in the midfield.
Ricciardo, who qualified 17th and finished 15th in the race, claimed that he had a comfortable feeling behind the wheel, but the results were far from satisfactory. His team-mate, Yuki Tsunoda, also struggled, qualifying 18th and failing to make significant progress in the race.
“It was a really, really strange weekend for us to have dropped off so much,” Ricciardo admitted to Autosport on Sunday. Despite feeling comfortable in qualifying, the Australian driver believed that RB lacked the necessary load to get the most out of their new package.
Formula 1 Standings: RB’s Poor Showing Raises Concerns
RB’s performance in Barcelona marked a concerning start to the Formula 1 triple header, which includes upcoming races at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone. With limited time to rectify their issues, Ricciardo emphasized the need to analyze and address their problems within the next 48-72 hours.
While reverting back to their previous car could be a tempting solution, Ricciardo is hesitant to take such drastic action, at least for now. “I think that temptation probably only exists in maybe 72 hours,” he said. “If we’re still unsure or there’s no clear answer, then maybe we say: ‘Okay, do we just for the time being go back?’ But right now, I’m not there yet to resort to that.”
Team Principal Laurent Mekies shared Ricciardo’s sentiments, describing the weekend as “poor” for RB. Mekies acknowledged that the team needs to look ahead and work their way out of their current struggles. With a long season ahead, Mekies emphasized the importance of staying focused and fighting back immediately.
Formula 1 Schedule: RB Aims to Bounce Back in Austria
As the Formula 1 paddock heads to the Red Bull Ring, RB is determined to put their disappointing Spanish GP behind them. With a stern test ahead, Mekies highlighted the need for the team to make progress in the limited time available. Stay tuned for the latest Formula 1 news and updates as the season unfolds.
