Team Principals Weigh in on Rookie Sprint Race Plan and Formula 1 Developments
Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Principal Toto Wolff, Alfa Romeo F1 Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur, and McLaren F1 Team Principal Andreas Seidl shared their thoughts on the proposed rookie sprint race plan, Formula 1 developments, and the future of the sport during a press conference at the Italian Grand Prix.
Wolff expressed support for the rookie sprint race plan, which aims to provide more opportunities for young drivers to gain experience. He acknowledged that it would require an additional day of racing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which could be a strain on teams, but believes it’s essential for the growth of the sport. When asked about Kimi’s performance in the recent Italian Grand Prix, Wolff defended the young driver, saying that he needs time to develop and that the team is managing expectations. He also addressed concerns about putting too much pressure on Kimi, stating that the team’s decision to hire him was conscious and deliberate.
The team principals also shared their thoughts on the resurfaced Monza track and the new facilities. They praised the effort put into improving the infrastructure and agreed that Monza is a legendary track that deserves a place in the Formula 1 calendar.
