Formula 1 News: Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur Says Hero to Zero Moments Are the New Norm in Super-Tight F1 Championship

Ferrari Team Principal Embraces Unpredictability in Intense F1 Season

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has come to terms with the intense unpredictability of the current Formula 1 season, citing the narrow margins between victory and defeat. Speaking on the James Allen on F1 Podcast, released on Thursday, Vasseur emphasized that the slightest mistake can catapult a team from pole position to eighth, highlighting the extreme highs and lows experienced by Ferrari at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Vasseur attributes this phenomenon to the remarkably small margins in F1, where a mere “one tenth of a second per lap” can separate champions from also-rans. “The fight now, it’s so tight that from one weekend to the other, you can move from P1 to P8,” he explained. “Or P8 to P1. Red Bull was struggling in Monaco and they came back in Canada. It’s been that way from one weekend to the other one. From one upgrade to another, from track layout or tyre compound or the weather conditions, the grid will change.

“The most important thing is to convince everybody in the company that they are all a performance differentiator,” he emphasized.

The Ferrari boss acknowledged that his team’s abysmal performance in Montreal, which saw both cars retire, was a harsh reminder of the need to adapt and maintain momentum. “We didn’t score points, but we have to keep this momentum and this approach and not be too emotional,” he said.

In the same interview, Vasseur underscored the importance of instilling a culture of collective responsibility within Ferrari, emphasizing that every team member plays a crucial role in the team’s performance.

As the F1 season hurtles towards its climax, Vasseur remains unfazed by the impending regulatory changes for 2026, which could potentially upend the grid. “We don’t have to be scared,” he asserted. “It’s a huge opportunity to create something and to develop something. It’s a good feeling for the team that you have to start from scratch and to launch a new project.

With Ferrari closing the gap to Red Bull in the Formula 1 standings, Vasseur’s pragmatic approach to the challenges ahead could prove pivotal in the Scuderia’s quest for championship glory. As the Formula 1 calendar unfolds, fans can expect more twists and turns in this thrilling season of Formula 1 today.
