Haas Unleashes Extensive Upgrades for Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Formula 1 news: The Haas F1 team has introduced a comprehensive package of seven upgrades for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, aiming to bolster its performance in the 2023 Formula 1 season.

Two key modifications to the 2024 Haas, including a revised floor body and new sidepod inlet geometry, have triggered a ripple effect, prompting additional changes to the car’s design. The alterations to the floor body have led to modifications to the floor fences and floor edge, designed to generate increased aerodynamic load. Furthermore, the changes have necessitated adjustments to the size and position of the lower quadruplane in the rear corner of the car.

The revised inlet geometry on the sidepods, designed to improve airflow toward the rear of the car, has also instigated changes to the overall shape and structure of the side pod, as well as modifications to the mirror stay on the Haas F1 machine.

“Our upgrade is still really just putting an overall performance of the car, knowing that certain characteristics through corner balance we need to improve,” said Haas Formula 1 Team Principal Ayao Komatsu. “So, if everything works, we should have addressed that here, but we’ll see with the real car on the track.”

Haas currently occupies seventh place in the Constructors’ standings, following a double-points finish in Austria, which brought its tally to 19 points for the season, just 11 points behind sixth-placed Red Bull.

“[The] mindset in terms of a sporting team is to improve on championship position,” Komatsu emphasized. “So, when it’s only 11 points to P6, of course we go for it, anything can happen. Who would have thought we could score 12 points in Austria, right?”

The team will be hoping to avoid the same pitfalls as Red Bull, which has struggled with its recent upgrades. Meanwhile, other teams have also brought significant updates to Silverstone. Red Bull has made minor tweaks to the floor body and floor edge on its RB20, while McLaren has introduced a lower downforce rear wing and multiple beam wing configurations. Mercedes has brought a low drag configuration on both its front and rear wings, along with adjusted front brake cooling measures. Aston Martin has adjusted the front wing twist distribution to improve overall performance, and Sauber has introduced an alternate trim of the floor fences to optimize airflow.

The Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone promises to be an exciting event, with multiple teams bringing significant upgrades to the track. Will Haas’s extensive package of upgrades propel the team up the Formula 1 standings? Only time will tell.
