    WEC 2023: New Balance of Power Measures Released for Hypercars Ahead of Le Mans

    New BoP Regulations for Hypercars

    The FIA and the ACO have unveiled the latest Balance of Performance (BoP) measures for the World Endurance Championship’s Hypercars, introducing new power gains and losses above 250 km/h.

    “The updated BoP figures reveal the specifics of the two-stage power implementation, which will come into effect at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

    Manufacturer-Specific Changes

    • Ferrari: Will lose 1.7% of their power above 250 km/h, despite showcasing some of the highest top speeds in the field with their 499P.
    • Alpine: Will enter their two A424 LMDh machines with a 7 kg weight reduction and a 6 kW power reduction, but will benefit from a 0.90% power increase once they hit 250 km/h.
    • BMW WRT: Making their first Hypercar appearance at Le Mans with their two M Hybrid V8s, one featuring a unique Art Car livery. They will have a 1 kg weight increase and a 2 kW reduction in total power output, but will receive a 0.90% power increase above 250 km/h.
    • Cadillac: Their two V-Series.Rs will run 6 kg more than their #2 car did at Spa, with a 7 kW power reduction, but will not experience any further power increase or decrease above 250 km/h.
    • Ferrari: Their three 499Ps will run with 10 kg less weight and a 2 kW power increase, but will suffer the highest loss at a 1.70% power decrease from 250 km/h.
    • Isotta Fraschini: Entering their Tipo 6 Competizione for their first Le Mans, they will experience the second-highest weight loss and a 5 kW power reduction, but will receive a 0.90% power increase above 250 km/h.
    • Lamborghini: Returning to Le Mans, their two SC63s will run an additional 5 kW of power output, a 4 kg weight increase, and a 1.60% power decrease.
    • Peugeot: Their updated 9X8 LMH will run 18 kg less weight, the highest weight loss in the class, and suffer a 0.70% decrease once hitting 250 km/h.
    • Porsche Penske: Their 963 Le Mans Daytona Hypercars will gain 5 kg and receive a 4 kW power increase, but will not experience any power increase or decrease above 250 km/h.
    • Toyota GAZOO Racing: Their GR010 Hybrids will have 11 kg lesser weight and 7 kW less power, but will gain 0.90% of power after 250 km/h.

    Upcoming Le Mans Action

    The Le Mans action will commence with the Test Day this Sunday, June 9, featuring two 3-hour sessions and a class of 23 Hypercars, the highest since the inception of the category in 2021.
