    Formula 1 Today: Lando Norris Tops Weather-Hit First Free Practice at the Canadian Grand Prix

    The first Free Practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix got underway at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Lando Norris emerging on top amidst challenging weather conditions. The McLaren driver clocked a fastest lap time of 1:24.435 to lead the 90-minute session.

    The Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc followed closely behind, securing second and third spots, respectively. Carlos Sainz managed a time of 1:24.763, while Charles Leclerc clocked 1:25.306. Lewis Hamilton, seeking to improve his Formula 1 standings, finished fourth with a time of 1:25.970 in his Mercedes.

    Max Verstappen, currently second in the Formula 1 qualifying standings, ended the session in fifth place with a time of 1:26.502 in his Red Bull. Rookie Oscar Piastri completed the top six, finishing 0.252 seconds behind Verstappen in his McLaren.

    “With the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 schedule kicking off this weekend, teams and drivers will be looking to fine-tune their performances in the remaining practice sessions and qualifying rounds.”

    Pierre Gasly’s Alpine saw the chequered flag in seventh, ahead of Valtteri Bottas’ Sauber in eighth. The top 10 was rounded out by Sergio Perez and George Russell, both finishing within 4.1 seconds of Norris’ fastest time.
