WEC News: MissionH24 Pushes Ahead with H24EVO Development, Eyes 2025 Track Debut and 2026 Race Entry

In a recent update on the highly anticipated H24EVO, MissionH24’s CEO, Christophe Aslan, confirmed that the hydrogen fuel cell prototype is on track to hit the circuit for the first time next year, with a potential race debut planned for 2026. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the third iteration of the jointly developed GreenGT and Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) project, first unveiled last October.

Aslan revealed to Autosport that while the final design of the car is yet to be locked in, the primary focus is on chasing performance, stating, “We will pass the step of demonstrating.” The team is currently fine-tuning the aerodynamics, albeit with some challenges and delayed milestones.

“We would like to run this car on a circuit in 2025, and really we will do whatever we can to respect that.”

Despite these hurdles, MissionH24 remains committed to debuting the H24EVO on a circuit in 2025. Aslan stressed, “We would like to run this car on a circuit in 2025, and really we will do whatever we can to respect that.” The team is working diligently to ensure a successful track debut, with Aslan hinting that the entire 2025 season might be needed to achieve the required performance.

The H24EVO’s rigid components and composite parts are nearing completion, but Aslan wants to give the bodywork “a little bit more chance” to optimize its aerodynamics. He emphasized the importance of harmoniously integrating the technology and aerodynamics, saying, “To get the aero adapted to the technology, it’s not that easy… This will give us a little bit more chance until November to freeze it.”

MissionH24 has been at the forefront of hydrogen’s development as an alternative power source in motorsport since 2018. While regulations for the proposed hydrogen class are yet to be finalized, attention on hydrogen is growing, with the possibility of an entrant using the alternative fuel by 2028.

Aslan also expressed admiration for other hydrogen-powered projects, such as the Alpenglow Hy4, stating, “There is always something to learn” from their approaches. He highlighted the commonalities between MissionH24’s fuel cell cars and the Alpenglow, including hydrogen storage and refueling details.

    Upcoming Hydrogen-Powered Demonstrations

Next month, MissionH24’s second-generation H24, the Alpenglow, and other hydrogen-powered prototypes will take part in demonstrations at Le Mans. Additionally, the Ligier Bosch JS2 RH2 and the Foenix H2 will make public demo runs, showcasing the progress made in hydrogen-powered motorsport.

Stay tuned for further updates on the H24EVO and MissionH24’s journey as the WEC 2024 calendar approaches.
