Formula 1 News: Perez Crash Damage Bill Soars to Three Million Euros

According to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, Sergio Perez’s catastrophic Lap 1 crash could end up costing the team a whopping three million euros. Perez collided with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, resulting in extensive damage to his RB20, destroying both front corners. Marko blasted Magnussen’s involvement in the incident, suggesting that the Dane was at fault.

“Firstly, it was dangerous, and secondly, the damage is two or three million. And that’s a big handicap for us with the budget cap regulation. It’s another accident where Magnussen was involved. You have to look at it carefully on the replays. Thank God it ended well, but it was a very critical situation.”

This significant financial hit may set back Red Bull’s development program, which is already operating under Formula 1’s cost cap regulations.

Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly managed to secure 10th place for Alpine, overcoming a contentious collision with teammate Esteban Ocon. Gasly praised the team’s efforts, including reserve driver Jack Doohan’s role in perfecting the qualifying set-up.

“This was the most important Saturday of my year, and we showed up,” Gasly said.

Williams driver Logan Sargeant trailed behind teammate Alex Albon due to using an older rear wing spec. Sargeant admitted to having a strong weekend despite the handicap but hopes to receive the latest rear wing spec soon.

“I hope so. But honestly, I don’t know. I have to talk to the team to see where we are at.”

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri endured significant car damage after making contact with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, resulting in a 20-downforce-point deficit or approximately half a second per lap. Despite the issue, Piastri managed to claim his first podium of the campaign.

And finally, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur joined Monaco winner Charles Leclerc for a celebratory dive in the Monte Carlo harbour on Sunday evening. Leclerc called the win the most special of his career, and the emotional celebration capped off a memorable weekend.

As the Formula 1 calendar marches on, these developments are set to have a lasting impact on the competition. Stay tuned for more Formula 1 news, Formula 1 standings, and updates on the Formula 1 tyres saga.
