Gasly Commits to Alpine’s “Huge Potential” in Formula 1 Beyond 2024

Pierre Gasly has opened up about his decision to extend his contract with Alpine’s Formula 1 team, citing the squad’s “huge potential” as a major factor in his choice. Despite a tumultuous start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, which saw Alpine arrive in Bahrain with one of the slowest packages, the team has shown significant improvement in recent weeks, with three consecutive points-scoring finishes.

While teammate Esteban Ocon has elected to leave the team in 2025, Gasly has chosen to stay with the Anglo-French squad for next year and beyond. The French driver explained that his decision was based on his belief in the team’s future prospects, rather than their current Formula 1 results.

“It definitely hasn’t been the Formula 1 results so far that I’ve dreamed of with the team, but I definitely believe there’s a huge potential,” Gasly said in a recent interview. “I’ve seen a lot of positive signs happening inside the team, not only at the track but also back at the factory.”

Gasly highlighted the team’s response to their poor start to the season as a key factor in his decision. He praised Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo and Alpine Team Principal Bruno Famin for their commitment to the team and their desire to work with him.

Gasly also looked to Alpine’s off-track developments, including the appointment of David Sanchez to lead a three-pronged technical structure and the return of Flavio Briatore as an Executive Advisor. Despite rumors surrounding de Meo’s plans for the team, including the possibility of selling or becoming a customer Formula 1 outfit, Gasly was quick to dispel these claims.

“I don’t fully understand the [stories about the] commitment from Renault because it’s a lot of news out there, but I have a constant conversation with Luca pretty much almost weekly and it’s been very clear, and I think it’s been very clear in the media that his goal in Formula 1 is to bring the team and he’s committed 100% with Alpine,” Gasly said.

Gasly’s decision to stay with Alpine is a significant boost to the team as they prepare for the 2025 Formula 1 season and beyond. With the 2026 season set to introduce new regulations, Gasly’s commitment is a clear indication of his belief in the team’s ability to compete at the top of the Formula 1 standings.
