Tag Heuer Porsche Commits to GEN4 Era of Formula E Championship

In a significant development for the FIA Formula E Championship, Tag Heuer Porsche has officially confirmed its participation in the GEN4 era, set to begin in 2024. This announcement ensures the German outfit’s continued presence on the grid, following a strong performance in the current Season 10, where they occupy second place in both the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships. Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche’s lead driver, is mere 16 points behind the top spot, thanks to his wins in Mexico City and Misano, as well as Antonio Felix da Costa’s victory in Berlin.

Formula E 2023 has been a remarkable year for the team, with consistent performances that have propelled them to become one of the top contenders. Michael Steiner, Porsche’s board-member for Research and Development, emphasized the manufacturer’s long-term commitment to Formula E, stating, “Right from the outset, we regarded our Formula E commitment as long-term. The evolution of racing vehicles shows how much development potential there is in e-mobility.

Steiner added, “Going forward, we want to glean even more knowledge from Formula E that we can transfer to our roadgoing sports cars. As one of the most competitive series in motor racing, it’s already pushing us to achieve technological excellence. We look forward to continuing to shape the championship and contributing to the advancement of e-mobility.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds welcomed Porsche’s continued involvement, saying, “Their dedication to the highly anticipated GEN4 era not only pushes the boundaries of technology and performance but also sets a new standard for excellence in worldwide motorsport. With Porsche’s expertise and high-performance powertrains as one of the world’s most revered automotive manufacturers, this renewed partnership bolsters an exciting future for Formula E, filled with even more groundbreaking achievements and unforgettable racing moments.

With three wins under their belt this season, Porsche will aim to add to their tally and maintain their title contender status at the upcoming Shanghai E-Prix. The team’s powertrain is expected to be well-suited for the peloton-style racing anticipated in Shanghai.
