Porsche Extends Partnership with Andretti to 2026 in Formula E

In a significant development ahead of the Berlin ePrix on Thursday, Porsche has announced a two-year extension to its partnership with the Andretti team in Formula E, taking their collaboration to a four-year period. This move solidifies Andretti’s commitment to utilizing Porsche’s 99X Electric powertrain, which began in 2022 with the introduction of the Gen3 era.

The American team has enjoyed considerable success with Porsche, securing two wins in the previous season and claiming the Formula E drivers’ title courtesy of Jake Dennis. Despite some tense moments, particularly in the London season finale, the partnership has been productive, with Porsche currently leading the Manufacturers’ Trophy by eight points at the halfway point of the 2023 season.

Continuity and Progression

Andretti team principal Roger Griffiths expressed his satisfaction with the extended partnership, citing the team’s desire to maintain continuity and build on their success. “When we signed the original agreement, we weren’t in a position to be able to sign a four-year contract because Porsche at the time hadn’t committed to Formula E beyond the end of Season 10,” Griffiths explained to Autosport. “We went into it hoping they would continue onwards and hoping they would still want to be partnered with us.”

Griffiths acknowledged the challenges the partnership faced last season but emphasized the progress made in their off-season talks. “I think the intent was always to do a four-year deal because the last thing you want to do is get halfway through it and then change to another manufacturer,” he said.

Continued Success

With Dennis currently third in the formula e standings, 13 points behind Pascal Wehrlein, the partnership is poised for continued success in the 2023 season and beyond. Wehrlein, who has secured two wins this season, remains the frontrunner for the drivers’ title.

Porsche team principal Florian Modlinger echoed Griffiths’ sentiments, praising the partnership’s achievements and looking forward to the Gen3 Evo era. “We have enjoyed working with the Andretti team since we partnered up for the Gen3 era, and we are more than happy to continue to do so for Gen3 Evo,” Modlinger said. “It’s also thanks to Andretti that the Porsche 99X Electric has had great results over the last one and a half seasons, including Jake Dennis’ world championship win.”

The partnership’s extension bodes well for the future of Formula E, with both teams optimistic about their prospects in Seasons 11 and 12.
