Porsche Confirms Long-Term Commitment to Formula E Ahead of Shanghai Double-Header
As the Formula E paddock gears up for the Shanghai double-header this weekend, Porsche has announced its decision to remain in the championship for an additional six seasons, marking a significant milestone in the German manufacturer’s involvement in the electric racing series.
Since joining Formula E in the 2019-20 season, Porsche has achieved seven victories across the Gen2 and Gen3 eras, with its powertrain guiding Jake Dennis to the drivers’ title last season for customer outfit Andretti. Although the factory effort has only managed a best result of fourth in the teams’ standings during that time, Porsche’s continued involvement is a testament to its commitment to the championship’s growth and development.
“We are on some kind of journey together, everybody together but of course before you sign you have some talks, you want to clarify some things, you talk about conditions, you talk about everything before you set a signature,” Thomas Laudenbach, vice president of Porsche Motorsport, told Autosport.
Porsche becomes the third manufacturer to commit to the Gen4 ruleset, following Nissan and Jaguar’s commitments earlier this year. “It’s about developing technology, it’s about developing the process, it’s about developing functions – it’s all of that,” adds Laudenbach.
