Sergio Perez to Start British Grand Prix from Pitlane After Grid Penalty

Formula 1 today faces a significant setback as Red Bull’s Sergio Perez will be starting the highly-anticipated British Grand Prix from the pitlane, following the team’s decision to equip his car with fresher power unit components outside his allocation. This move comes as Perez struggles to regain his competitiveness, which has been evident throughout the weekend at Silverstone.

During the qualifying session, Perez experienced a spin at Copse on a damp track in Q1, resulting in his car becoming beached in the gravel. As a consequence, he qualified with the second-slowest time. Furthermore, Pierre Gasly’s substantial 50-place grid drop led him to opt out of re-emerging once the track conditions had dried up.

Given that Perez was already destined to start from the rear of the grid, Red Bull has taken the opportunity to fit his car with a brand new Internal Combustion Engine, Energy Store, and Control Electronics. This strategic move aims to give Perez a stronger platform for the remainder of the Formula 1 calendar.

Meanwhile, Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen faced his own challenges during the qualifying session. A wide moment at Copse resulted in a damaged floor, ultimately relegating him to a fourth-place finish, behind the Mercedes duo and Lando Norris. As Formula 1 news unfolds, we will continue to monitor the developments and updates from the British Grand Prix.

Stay tuned for the latest Formula 1 news, including Formula 1 qualifying and Formula 1 calendar updates.
