Rising Star Jak Crawford Completes Debut Formula 1 Testing with Aston Martin
Aston Martin’s latest addition to their Young Driver Development programme, 19-year-old Jak Crawford, has successfully concluded his inaugural Formula 1 testing appearance at the iconic Red Bull Ring, home to the Austrian Grand Prix. The American driver took the wheel of the team’s 2022 car, the AMR22, logging an impressive 400km of track time.
Successful Maiden F1 Testing Experience
Crawford’s maiden F1 testing experience was a resounding success, with an uninterrupted run schedule that included short and long runs. “A big thank you to everyone at Aston Martin Aramco who has helped to make this happen and for their support at the test,” Crawford expressed. “My first day in an F1 car was a great experience and I enjoyed every lap. It was a clean and smooth day for us with no issues and we completed all the running that we wanted to.”
The young American’s primary goal was to acclimate himself to the car’s systems and get up to speed. “It was a learning process for me and in the end, it was nothing like I’ve ever driven before, especially in the high-speed sections. I feel like I adapted quite well and I’m excited for the next one,” Crawford said.
Praise from Aston Martin’s Team
Aston Martin’s Team Evolution Programme Director, Robert Sattler, praised Crawford’s performance, stating, “It is always a special moment seeing a young driver complete their first laps in a Formula One car. After a full day of running, Jak has gained some valuable experience that he can take forward into his other tests in the programme.”
Crawford will now continue to attend select race events with the Silverstone-based squad this season, alongside his sophomore campaign in Formula 2. In related news, Mercedes has resumed Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s car testing programme, with the Italian driver taking the wheel of the W13 in Barcelona.
