    Formula 1 qualifying in Montreal set to be a thrilling affair after mixed opening day

    Formula 1 fans are in for a treat as the Canadian GP qualifying gets underway on Saturday, with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso leading the charge after a disrupted opening day in Montreal. Rain showers played havoc with both practice sessions, resulting in a shaken-up order. Alonso took the top spot in FP2 ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell, while Red Bull and Max Verstappen faced a difficult day due to an ERS issue with his power unit.

    When to watch Formula 1 qualifying

    Qualifying for the Canadian GP starts at 4:00pm local time (9:00pm BST) on Saturday, using the regular Q1, Q2, and Q3 knockout session format. In the United Kingdom, you can catch all the action live on Sky Sports F1, with coverage starting at 8:00pm BST. If you prefer to watch on a different channel, Sky Sports Main Event will also broadcast the qualifying session at 9:00pm BST.

    If you’re in the UK, you can watch Formula 1 qualifying live on Sky Sports F1 as part of the Sky Sports channels, which costs £18 a month for new customers. Channel 4 will also broadcast highlights of qualifying at 1:30am BST on Sunday morning, with a replay at 8:30am BST.

Coverage of Canadian GP qualifying will start at 9:00pm BST on the BBC Sport website and the BBC Sounds app. As for the weather, sunshine and showers are forecast for Saturday afternoon, with a high chance of rain and moderate winds. The temperature is set to be 19 degrees Celsius at the start of qualifying.
