Williams Unveils Three-Pronged Upgrade Plan to Revitalize 2024 Formula 1 Season

As the Formula 1 season enters its summer break, Williams is gearing up to implement a trio of critical upgrades to its FW46 car, aiming to revitalize its 2024 campaign. The Grove-based team has struggled to find its footing this season, taking a step backward from its 2023 performance.

In an effort to get back on track, Williams team boss James Vowles has outlined a three-part plan to address the car’s aerodynamics, suspension design, and weight issues. The upgrades are slated to debut shortly after the summer break, with Vowles targeting the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort and the Singapore Grand Prix as potential introduction points.

“We have updates coming up this summer break,” Vowles stated in Spa. “What I can tell you is there are substantive numbers that should add up to us being back in a position of fighting for points. It’s achieved through a number of things. It’s aerodynamic updates, you’re going to see a suspension update, and you’re going to see weight coming off the car.”

While these upgrades are crucial to the team’s 2024 season, Vowles revealed that Williams’ design team has already shifted its focus to 2025, aligning with the squad’s long-term approach.

“We’re also investing in ’25, so our car in the wind tunnel is not the 2024 car, it’s been the 2025 one for quite a few months,” he explained.

This forward-thinking approach is a significant departure for Williams, which traditionally focused on the current year or one year in advance. The team is now working on multiple seasons simultaneously, with resources allocated to 2024, 2025, 2026, and even 2027.

For Formula 1 enthusiasts, this development marks a crucial step in Williams’ revival. With the team currently sitting on just four points, ahead of a scoreless Sauber squad, these upgrades could be the catalyst for a strong second half of the season. As the Formula 1 calendar moves into its second half, fans will be watching closely to see if Williams can translate these upgrades into much-needed points.
